Alas, Las Vegas too has to diversify. Gone are the $5 dollar buffets, although modern buffets are still a great way to get good food, and lots of it, too(when you think the average buffet is $10-15 pp and a typical entree costs $15-20. There are also a multitude of amazing shows like Cirque Du Soleil, musicals like Mamma Mia, and music concerts.
To top it all off, the place has become a theme park for adults - Venice, Paris, New York, pyramids, South East Asia (Mandalay) - think and you will find it.
Stayed at the Aladdin - not luxurious but functionally ok. Room was quite spacious and the location central. Saw David Copperfield. He was fantastic, always leaving me to wonder "How did he do that?". Also saw Cirque Du Soleil's Mystere. Best part was when 2 gymnast guys came out and did a series of gravity defying acrobatic moves and lifts in SLOW motion. Did not see their arms or legs shake or waver for a second. Most scary move they did: one guy lying flat on his belly, his partner in a handstand on the soles of his feet (no kidding the underside), and he lifts is partner-in-handstand up by doing a calf curl!!!! Yikes! I felt my achilles' tendons were ready to split into a thousand shreds. Did a little shopping - found a cool sweatshirt by the Lucky Brand (with the Buddha logo) with "Shanghai" chinese characters embroidered on it beside a very elaborate Chinese pattern. And yes, how can a Vegas trip be complete without gambling? Did I win? Well, better luck next time : )
