Hm, my long-weekend on endless stretches of meticulously manicured green pastures with strategically placed holes, sand bars and traps (it's called golf? haven't played in so long almost forgot) turned into an extended soak in a tub of cold water.
Thanks to Ed the Batman-scuba-instructor and the ever helpful ponytailed divemaster Ming, I got my first scuba certification. Yippie! Did the 2-day course up in Big Bay Point on lake Simcoe, Innisfil, ON. Day 1: cool and windy, strong water currents - must have been the sonic boom from the Live8 concert happening down the road in Barrie. The water was very cold (60F<) brhh..You know when you jump into a cold shower and when the water hits you, it makes you gasp? I felt the same way when doing the mask-flood and clear maneouver. Day2: sun was out so at least there was a chance to warm up between dives, but then it got trickier because then I started sweating like a garden hose on the docks and whenever I jumped into the chilly water my hands and feet got numb like the winter-time. Underwater, it felt like eating ice cream or ice popsicle too quickly on a warm summer day, made me wanna smack my forehead and to shake it off! Overall: lots of fun spending a weekend amongst some great people who were truly a fun group. Managed to finish all my dives without the slightest of a prick in my wet suit, 100% success at avoiding being caught in any of the fishing lines and hooks.
Now, can't wait to do it all over again somewhere nice and warm, Yeah!
